20 — Process
This personal project stemmed from an already exisiting interest in fashion, and wanting to explore editorial design as a result.
Utilizing the british alternative magazine, Bizarre, as inspiration (that already had fetish themes in some issues), I wanted to create a modern take on this no longer publishing magazine and create a mock up that could potentially showcase what a version of it could look today.
Utilizing fetish as the main theme, I focused mainly on that theme for the articles/print pieces, photography, and clothing collages. I wanted to highlight on Rick Castro, a fetish photographer who used to be in the fashion industry for this magazine, and a good portion of this editorial features his photography and interviews by him or on him.
The photography on this mock-up is not my own and found through the people highlighted in the individual articles or through Vogue, other editorial websites and/or fashion/shopping websites. I wanted my main exploration to focus on the typography and collages (some examples featured in the styling section). I wanted this to be an exploration largely about organizing type in various instances that can keep a reader engaged and interested, not bored looking through a 50+ page magazine.
Additionally, on top of article type explorations, I wanted to do product highlights, and mock-up ads, like in real magazines, so some of them are fake and some are real older ads. I wanted this to feel like an authentic magazine, with the idea of not being able to tell what is stuff I mocked up vs stuff I created.
